Publish Date : 08-Feb-2016

The NYSE-listed Lockheed Martin yesterday has made an announcement on its signing of a 17-year solar power purchase agreement (PPA) intended for solar power of 30 MWp to be generated by Duke Energy Renewables.

The US-based security and aerospace company has revealed that the green energy procurement, with an estimated amount of 72,000 megawatt-hours per annum, will facilitate delivery of clean power covering all of the domestic business segments of Lockheed Martin.

Duke Energy Renewables new photovoltaic plant at Conetoe in North Carolina will be mainly responsible for providing electricity to be generated from solar system to Lockheed Martin.

The PV facility, with its 80 MW of generation capacity, is now the biggest solar energy generating site east of the Mississippi River.

The Lockheed Martin VP (Energy, Environment, Safety & Health) Carol B. Cala stated, "Signing this agreement for the acquisition of large-scale renewable power is a significant milestone towards our commitment to environmental stewardship and is one more step in the expansion of our Go Green program looking for operational efficiencies and best business value to our operations."

According to Lockheed Martin, the American company is now using close to 260,000MWh of green energy per annum, comprising renewable energy credits. The amount is sufficient to fulfill 16% of the overall power consumption of the company.
