In South Africa, Germany-based Skytron Energy GmbH will fit out the 86.2-MWp Mulilo Sonnedix Prieska solar park in with its monitoring, control and supervision technology, said Skytron's owner, First Solar Inc.
German renewable energy developer Juwi AG, which is developing the photovoltaic (PV) power plant in the Northern Cape region have selected Skytron. Completion of the facility is due in July and is expected to generate sufficient energy for 30,000 homes.
The project forms part of South Africa's Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers Procurement Programme (REIPPPP), targeting 18 GW of renewable energy by 2030, including 8.4 GW of solar power.
Skytron will be integrating the entire range of its control and supervision technology. It will even work on redesigning of the components for the site in order to address local requirements. Contract for the production of the combiner boxes with integrated string current monitoring has been awarded to a local partner so that the system can meet the local content requirements by REIPPPP.
This project is a development of France-based solar power producer Sonnedix in association with South African company Mulilo.
