Indonesia,United States : INDONESIA plans to equip its armed forces with Chinook Helicopters

Publish Date : 20-Feb-2016

Indonesia and Boeing are now involved in talks for a purchase deal of an indefinite number of H-47 Chinook twin-engine, tandem rotor heavy-lift choppers.

Indonesia is trying to upgrade the capabilities of its armed forces through outfitting them with long-range cargo and troop-carrier capacities. Moving to this end, the country is carrying out negotiations with globally acclaimed aircraft manufacturer to procure the Chinook helicopters.

The US-based aerospace giant has disclosed that the newest iteration of the iconic helicopter will be capable of transporting troops or supplies over a range of up to 1,000 kilometers at the maximum speeds of 300 kilometer per hour.

The Boeing Director for Global Sales & Marketing of cargo helicopters Ed Hassiepen revealed, Indonesia has expressed interest but there's no definite decision. We are in conversation with the government and with the US government.

The Boeing official has made this statement during a media briefing at the Singapore Airshow 2016.

Every export of military aircraft requires prior clearance from the US Congress.

It offered its approval in 2015 to permit Indonesia to buy eight Apache attack helicopters.

Director for Tiltrotor Global Sales & Marketing at Boeing Rick Lemaster on Wednesday has revealed that the helicopter delivery is still progressing.

It is anticipated that the company will be able to complete the first Apache helicopter delivery to Indonesia in the year 2018.
