Publish Date : 24-Feb-2016

When Typhoon Ruby devastated the Province of Eastern Samar on December 6, 2014, many school buildings were partially and totally damaged. In November 2015, a detailed assessment of schools damaged was conducted in Eastern Samar and Borongan City in line with the request for the assistance of Congressman Ben P. Evardone.

The Physical Facilities and Schools Engineering Division of the Central Office of the Department of Education (PFSED-DepEd) came up with a total of 168 schools needing repair and with a total cost of P 261.2-M.

From this assessment, the Eastern Samar Division will repair 129 school buildings with 754 classrooms with a total amount of P 200.2-M for repair. On the other hand, the Borongan City Division will repair 39 school buildings with 234 classrooms with a total amount of P 61-M.

As of this writing, The Department of Education (DepEd) has started the bidding process for the repair and rehabilitation of public elementary and high schools. For the Eastern Samar Division, the P 24-M for repair of 19 school buildings with 79 classrooms has already been bid out last February 16, 2016.

Meanwhile, the Borongan City Division will bid out P 20.3-M for repair of 11 school buildings with 76 classrooms. The Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) of the division conducted a Pre-Bid Conference last Feb. 19, 2016 and the Submission and Opening of Bids will be on March 2, 2016.

DepEd Borongan City Division through its BAC now invites bids for the above-mentioned projects. Prospective bidders must have an experience of having completed at least one (1) contract that is similar to the contract to be bid out and which value adjusted to current prices using the Philippine Statistics Authoritys (formerly known as the National Statistics Office) consumer price indices must be at least fifty percent (50%) of the Approved Budget for the Contract (ABC). DepEd said that the repair of the school buildings should be completed within two to three months depending on the project and upon approval of the contract.
