Publish Date : 25-Feb-2016
Romanian Defense Minister Mihnea Motoc has brought out plans to buy 12 F-16 fighter jets in 2017, with the purchase anticipated to be introduced by the year end.
The Romanian Cabinet is planning to purchase used fighter jets from other NATO member states.
We dont know from whom we will buy the aircraft. To date, we have sent out requests for information to all the allied countries which operate such planes, including the US and five European allies. We are awaiting their response, Motoc said.
The plan includes that the F-16s are to substitute outdated Soviet-designed Mikoyan MiG-21 fighters of Romania. The expected procurement value was not revealed.
