Israel : AROTECH's power systems division secures $8.5 million Israel battery order
Publish Date : 25-Feb-2016
Arotechs power systems division has won $8.5 million contract from the Israel Ministry of Defense (IMOD). This contract is for the supply of 70,000 rechargeable batteries, said Arotech.
Under this contract, the ministry has an option to order an additional $8.5 million worth of rechargeable batteries on the same terms. The ministry is to use the batteries to operate radios and other systems.
Production of the batteries will be taken up by a subsidiary of Arotech in Sderot, southern Israel, and will be delivered from or after the fourth quarter of 2016.
Steven Esses, president and chief executive officer, Arotech, said, This was an extremely competitive tender, and I am proud of our team, which won this tender against the substantial competition of five well-regarded companies, four Israeli and one American.
Eliezer Hasson, senior director, C4I procurement, Directorate of Procurement and Production, IMOD, said, The purchase of batteries and charging systems tailored to the modern battlefield will bring a quantum leap in the command and control capabilities of the IDF's combat units. This acquisition is in addition to orders of tens of thousands of batteries recently produced by Epsilor's operating facility in Dimona.
