United States : LAS VEGAS soon to use renewable energy for meeting its 100% power demand

Publish Date : 26-Feb-2016

The City of Las Vegas is moving on track to become fully reliant on renewable power, thanks to its partnership with NV Energy.

The Public Utilities Commission (PUC) has offered its approval to the citys partnership with NV Energy intended for granting a part of the energy to be generated by a local solar power plant to the city.

The clearance from the Las Vegas City Council for this partnership is now required.

Apart from its individual generation of some amount of green energy, the city also procures power from NV Energy to meet the renewable portfolio standard of the State.

The new solar power plant is now being developed in Boulder City.

The facility will facilitate the city to utilize only renewable energy to support its full retail load.

It signifies that only renewable energy will be used by the City of Las Vegas to power its streetlight, city park, plus community center, fire station, as well as service yard and public building.

In a statement, Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman revealed, "This partnership is a sustainability game changer for our city."

Goodman added, "One thing that surprises people is how environmentally conscious Las Vegas is when all they know appears to be less than sustainable."

The announcement on the City of Las Vegas partnership with NV Energy was first made in November last year.
