Dublin Airport Authority subsidiary DAA International has been given a profitable, multi-million euro contract to administer and run the new terminal five facility at Saudi Arabias King Khaled International airport (KKIA) in Riyadh, expected to launch later this year.
Following a competitive tender process against 5 other international airport operators from Europe, Asia and Africa to run the 106,500sq m terminal, which can handle up to 12 million domestic passengers per year the Saudi Arabias General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) awarded the management contract to DAA International.
The contract includes all terminal management services within T5, with DAA International in charge for managing all 3rd party commercial tenants for example airport retail and car parking within the new terminal complex. When opened, the facilities will encompass approximately 4,500sq m of retail space, as well as food and beverage outlets and a new car park.
DAA International CEO Colm Moran said, DAA International is delighted to have won this highly significant contract at King Khaled International airport and we look forward to providing a fantastic travel experience for passengers.
This is DAA Internationals first airport management contract and our intention is to build on this win by adding further significant contracts in the months and years ahead.
The company will have 15 senior management staff at T5, who will lead a core operations staff of approximately 90 people. DAA International will in addition deal with an extra 250 employees working in facilities management and cleaning, who will be employed by subcontractors to GACA.
Moran added, We are proud to have been selected ahead of such formidable competition, and we will work closely with GACA to ensure that DAA International more than delivers on its commitments to provide a world class product to customers and also to generate significant commercial revenues at terminal five.
GACA president Sulaiman Al Hamdan said, This is the first project of its kind for GACA and we are very excited to be working with daa International who submitted a very attractive and competitive bid for managing and operating this brand new terminal at KKIA.
T5 will substitute terminal 3 and will manage domestic flights, which has seen domestic passenger numbers at KKIA grew by 7.4% to 11.7 million previous year and is forecast to increase by up to one-third over the next 4 years.
The agreement to run the new terminal in Riyadh is the 2nd major contract award for DAAs overseas businesses in the Middle East in the previous two months. DAA Internationals sister company ARI in December was given a 10-year retail contract at Abu Dhabi International Airports new Midfield Terminal.
