Bangladesh : FMC Shipyard receives order for construction of Special Inspection Multipurpose Survey Vessel

Shipping Minister M Shajahan Khan added that the nation is advancing quickly under the helm of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the ship building industry is bringing in lot of national economy.

BIWTA (Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority) has given order to the FMC Shipyard for building of a 49.51-metre Special Inspection Multipurpose Survey Vessel, which is the first of such kind in Bangladesh and 53 buoys and navigational aids and 500 passenger-capacity Coastal Passenger Vessel for BIWTC (Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation).

The BIWTA is expected to be supplied the Special Inspection Multipurpose Survey Vessel in May 2017 and the Coastal Passenger Vessel would be provided to the BIWTC in July 2017.

Under open procurement method (OPM), around 22 dredgers would be procured, rather than direct procurement method (DPM) at a cost of Tk 22 billion, the shipping minister added.
