Publish Date : 08-Mar-2016

Morocco will be receiving EUR 400 million (USD 438m) from German development bank KfW to finance the construction of the Noor Midelt solar power complex.

On 27 February, Federal Development Minister Gerd Muller and Mustapha Bakkoury from Morocco's agency for solar power, signed the agreement.

Masen had launched the tender for the solar power complex near the central city of Midelt in January.

The Noor Midelt complex has capacity to accommodate up to 470 MW in capacity. Currently, the plan involves development of a hybrid complex, combining concentrated solar power (CSP) with photovoltaics (PV) where CSP takes 80% to 85% of the total capacity while PV technology makes up for the remaining 15% to 20%.

Already, KfW has agreed to give EUR 864 million supporting various phases of the giant solar complex at Noor Ouarzazate.

The Noor solar programme covers projects in five cities such as Ouarzazate, Laayoune, Boujdour, Midelt and Tata.
