Publish Date : 10-Mar-2016

Brazilian Urban Trains Company (CBTU) has announced plans to expand the 56.2km diesel-operated light network in Natal, the state capital of Rio Grande do Norte, with the addition of a third line.

The 24km White Line would expand the metre-gauge system beyond the existing terminus of the South Line at Parnamirim to Sao Jose do Mipibu and Nsia Floresta.

The project would cost Reais 152m ($US 40.2m), including the procurement of three additional diesel LRVs.

CBTU said if development of the scheme is to continue, the Brazilian Ministry of Cities will have to approve the project and provide financial support.
