Publish Date : 11-Mar-2016
NRG Energy on Monday has made an announcement regarding the activation of a new photovoltaic (PV) plant in Southern California, with capacity to generate 20MW of power.
NRG Energys parent firm is NRG Yield, Inc.
As part of a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA), Southern California Edison will procure the clean energy to be produced by the NRG Solar Oasis plant.
The project has been set up on an area of about 180 acres situated in the western Mojave Desert, five miles northeast of Palmdale, California. Of this land parcel, the United States Air Force has provided the bulk part on lease.
As part of an earlier partnership deal between NRG and NRG Yield, the companies have delivered funds to support the project jointly.
The NRG Energy SVP Craig Cornelius commented, We are proud to continue to bring renewable energy options to the residents of Southern California, and this project is a great example of our focus on customers and our desire to provide them with the energy solutions they need and want.
It is anticipated that solar PV panels of about 98,000 on the site will facilitate production of sufficient amount power to meet the electricity demands of around 3,280 homes. Taking this rate into account, the project will allow preventing of carbon emissions of 41,000 tons, as good as removing 8,600 cars from the road.
Since the start of construction work on the project in summer last year, there has been generation of job opportunities for around 250 people throughout construction phase.
