The Procurement Department celebrated certification of ISO 9001 for quality management systems in recognition of its continuing commitment to quality and excellence in its management operations.
The certificate was presented on February 25 to QU President Dr Hassan Rashid Al Derham by the British Ambassador to Qatar H.E. Ajay Sharma in the presence of QU Associate Vice President for Facilities and Information Technology Dr Khalid Naji, department director Mr Mohammed Saleh Al Saadi, bsi Group Qatar Country Manager Mr Omar Rashid, and QU leaders and staff.
In his remarks, Dr Al Derham said: QU has always sought success and distinction through enhancing its partnership with international bodies. The Procurement Department has succeeded in implementing quality services by developing its effectiveness and building trust with partners. The success of receiving ISO 9001 certification reflects the fact that QU is in line with international standards in terms of quality services provided.
H.E. Sharma said: I am pleased to be here at Qatar University which is a leading academic institution in developing the future of Qatar. I applaud the partnership between QU and bsi Group which has led to the success we are celebrating today.
He added: The relationship between Qatar and UK is one of the best I am pleased to be here today to celebrate the achievement of the Procurement Department receiving ISO 9001 for its quality management success.
Dr Naji said: QU continues to seek excellence by developing its practical processes as part of its commitment to quality standards and best practice. He noted that the department started the exercise towards certification in quality management from International ISO at the beginning of June 2015 with the aim to provide services and products at the maximum level of efficiency and that fulfil the requirements of its constituents.
This certificate underlines that in providing quality services to its members, QU stands in parallel with academic institutions around the world, he said. He further noted that the achievement was not the first for QU that the university had achieved ISO in environmental, health and safety management in 2015, ISO 17025 for its research laboratories, and re-certification for ISO 27001 in information security management in 2014.
Mr Rashid congratulated the department and noted bsi Qatars eagerness to develop its relationship with QU by establishing a fruitful partnership. Mr Al Saadi also congratulated the Procurement team on successfully achieving the ISO certification through hard work and persistence.
