India : MMRDA conferred the Smart BKC Contract to RELIANCE INFRA
Publish Date : 16-Mar-2016
Reliance Infrastructure, a part of the Anil Ambani-led ADAG, has been successful to secure a key contract from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) for the transformation of the citys commercial hub of Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) into the Smart BKC.
The MMRDAs Metropolitan Commissioner Sanjay Sethi has disclosed that they have decided to award the Smart BKC contract to Reliance Infrastructure on the basis of design, develop, implement, operate and maintain model, subsequent to thorough assessment of the financial and technical bid proposals of the contenders.
The MMRDA will have to shell out about Rs 75 crore, as per the Reliance bid, to accomplish the project.
Reliance has been awarded the contract as it offered by the lowest bid. The quotation of the other contender for the project, Larsen & Toubro (L&T), was Rs 107 crore.
A senior official of the MMRDA revealed, We had to analyse every aspect in detail because the MMRDA has had differences with both companies and there are chances of either company going to court, alleging bias against it.
MMRDA has differences with Reliance over the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar (VAG) Metro-1 corridor and L&T over the Wadala-Chembur monorail corridor.
However, there should not be any further litigation as any company that qualifies for the financial and technical bid for the project, it is automatically entitled to act as a contractor for the project, added the MMRDA official.
The Authority, to facilitate a transparent selection procedure, had carried out a two-day long drill on Smart BKC on 17th and 18th December, 2015, and during this technical bidding process, both Reliance and L&T had exhibited their respective components meant for the project. The procedure had been beneficial for the MMRDA as it was able to assess the components that the companies were planning to offer for the project.
