Swaziland : SWAZILAND Govt in Vehicles Tender Battle worth E160 million

Publish Date : 19-Mar-2016

Government is said to be tangled up in a tender mess of amount around E160 million and the buying of motor vehicles for the security forces, CTA and ministry of public works and transport might not go through.

This is resulted, as it has been alleged, the ministries of public works and transport and finance flouted procurement procedures when taking the choice to buy motor vehicles for the said ministries and government departments.

The process to buy the motor vehicles was already at an ahead phase, but it has now been opposed by the Swaziland Public Procurement Regulatory Agency (SPPRA) on the grounds that it has illicitly used the public funds.

The SPPRA has filed an urgent application before the High Court asking an order to halt the acquisition of motor vehicles for the Royal Swaziland Police service, defence, His Majestys Correctional Services and the Kings office.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the agency, Bongani Motsa, has said that the tender to acquire the motor vehicles was irregular in that the agency was not engaged.
