US firm, APR Energy has secured the tender to rent power generators to Burkina Faso, said the countrys Energy ministry, adding that this deal is worth around CFA 24 billion.
The government of Burkina Faso in a move to reduce power cuts, have come up with a decision to invite bid for the renting of power generators to bridge the current deficit during times of excessive heat specially in April, May, June.
As per the contract, APR Energy will be responsible to make available the generators and install them for use. The first generator in the month of April will be producing 55 megawatts with an ultimate target of 110 megawatts.
The rental agreement covers the supply and installation of the equipment for April, May, June, October and November with a standby period of three months during the rainy season.
Cote dIvoire in the meanwhile will continue with the provision of 50 megawatts of electricity to the country.
The ambition of the government is to reduce this deficit to ensure that electrical outage is reduced to the barest minimum, said Minister of Energy, Alfa Oumar Dissa.
In a move to minimize its electricity deficit, Burkina Faso is committed towards the construction of two power plants of 310 megawatts to the east of Ouagadougou and the assembling of five solar power plants with a total output of 67 megawatts.
