Publish Date : 28-Mar-2016

To handle and oversee roads in the East Midlands, Highways England has picked Amey for the new road maintenance contract.

In the pact, Amey will be accountable for maintaining around 230 miles of East Midlands strategic road network under a new maintenance and response deal.

Worth around 300 million over 15 years, comprising augmentations, the deal includes networks comprising stretches of the M1, M69, M45 and M6.

Amey said that as well as delivering routine highways maintenance like defect repairs, emergency incident response, traffic management and severe weather service, the contract was one of a set of key new contracts in the East Midlands, where different supply chain allies will provide design, construction works and specialist goods and services.

Amey said it might have a prime part in bolstering Highways England develop this supply-chain community.

The awarding of this new contract represents a significant milestone for Highways England, marking a real change in the way we have previously managed contracts, said David Poole, director for commercial and procurement at Highways England.

Collaboration with our supply chain is key to our new way of working in the East Midlands and we are looking forward to establishing a successful, long-term relationship with the appointed contractors.

Amey already handles and maintains the prime network in the East of England in Areas 6 and 8 under the former Asset Support Contract model.
