Australia : Tenders called for solar panel project to cut power bills, carbon emissions
Publish Date : 01-Apr-2016
A call for tenders has been released today to provide solar panels for 400 housing trust homes providing substantial savings on electricity bills and cutting carbon emissions across Adelaide.
Housing and Urban Development Minister Stephen Mullighan said the project was a major step in providing affordable housing for some of South Australias most vulnerable citizens.
This project delivers on an election commitment to create a pilot program to install solar panels on 200 of our public housing stock, Mr Mullighan said.
Recently the program was doubled to include a further 200 properties in the CBD, meaning up to 400 properties will now be part of the scheme.
This project will provide savings on residents annual energy bills of at least $150 each year while also giving a valuable boost to South Australian solar suppliers and installers, and supporting jobs for South Australians.
Climate Change Minister Ian Hunter said the project was an important contribution towards making Adelaide the worlds first carbon neutral city.
This project is part of the State Governments drive towards a sustainable, low-carbon future, Mr Hunter said.
An assessment of suitable properties is already underway in the Adelaide City Council district.
The program is being funded through the $65 million public housing package announced in the 2015/16 State Budget.
Solar suppliers and installers interested in the tender can register at the SA Tenders and Contracts website.
The tender will close on 29 April with works scheduled to start in July.
