Publish Date : 04-Apr-2016

The French defence procurement agency (DGA) has awarded two contracts to Thales, which includes deployment of the POINCARE network and upgrade of the SOCRATE resilient network.

These contracts are part of the DESCARTES programme for upgrading all French Ministry of Defence data and telephony infrastructure networks.

Completion of the POINCARE networks rollout is expected in 2018, while the SOCRATE upgrade will begin in 2017, to be completed in 2021.

As per the SOCRATE network upgrade contract, Thales will be responsible for the provision of a high-data rate network to cope with the growing number and severity of cyber threats. The upgraded network will be interconnecting nearly 250,000 users at over 100 strategic sites, also to cover the ministry's new Hexagone-Balard headquarters in Paris.

The upgraded network will be featuring the Nexium View solution from Thales to speed up the incidence response time of the ministry's IT and communications agency as well as to foresee their impact on operations and supervise the network in real-time.

Thales, under the POINCARE contract, will be partnering with NextiraOne to interconnect the ministry's 1,200 sites in mainland France and overseas.
