India : Government to digitize goods & services procurement process
Publish Date : 06-Apr-2016
The Union Government, in a bid to move along the promising e-commerce sector, has been working on a dedicated portal development initiative to ensure efficient management of procurement of goods and services by different ministries and departments.
The Directorate General of Supplies and Disposals (DGS&D), which operates under the Commerce Ministry, is now responsible for procurement of goods and services.
Once the e-commerce portal becomes operational, concerned ministries and departments will be able to place order as per their needs from this online platform, and this will lead to elimination of conventional paper-based lengthy procedure, resulting in saving of both time and energy.
