The government may render low-interest yen loans to Indonesia to support it develop a huge new port in Patimban, 120 kilometers east of Jakarta.

As the Indonesian side has evaluated construction will expense around 300 billion, this is possibly to be one of the biggest Indonesian projects in which Japan has taken part, the sources said.

Tokyo expects the project will assist it to regain the ground lost to Beijing last year in a tender to develop a high-pace railway in Indonesia.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Indonesian President Joko Widodo of Tokyos wish to help out with the port amid a meeting in Kuala Lumpur last November.

The port is hoped to become a new huge distribution centre as areas between Jakarta and Patimban host many industrial parks, comprising those where Toyota Motor Corp., Honda Motor Co. and different major Japanese firms operate.

Amid a visit to Japan in February, Indonesian Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan observed the Japanese government of Jakartas plan to accept yen loans from Tokyo for the port plan.

The Japanese side has consented to do a feasibility study on the project.
