Nigeria, in a bid to build the dairy sector of the country, has started discussions with Arla Foods of Denmark.
Nigeria has been carrying out these talks along the lines of the Federal Governments strategy on food security for the countrymen.
Dr. Andrew Kwasari, Senior Technical Adviser to the Agriculture Minister of Nigeria, has made a trip to the Denmark-based dairy farms of Arla Foods, and during this trip, he has stated that alliance with Arla, one of the top dairy businesses of the world, and sharing of knowhow will be hugely beneficial for the farming community of Nigeria.
According to Dr. Kwasari, this partnership will facilitate the Nigerian farm owners, struggling due to several factors now, to build capabilities involving the logistics, infrastructure, organisation, quality and productivity spaces.
Kwasari added, We could definitely see Arla as a partner to help build a sustainable dairy industry in Nigeria from the very beginning based on its globally proven concept of Dairy enterprise of the farmers, for the farmers by the farmers.
The Danish Foreign Affairs Minister Kristian Jensen had signed a letter of intent (LoI) in February 2016 with the Nigerian Agriculture Minister to collaborate with Nigeria to develop the agriculture industry of the African nation.
Steen Hadsbjerg, the SVP & Head Arla Foods for Sub-Saharan Africa, has stressed that Nigeria is the backbone to Arlas capability to sell milk produced by its farm owners in the West African market in the days to come.
He has made this remark whilst he received the Nigerian delegation during their visit to Denmark.
Hadsbjerg added, We understand that developing the Nigerian local dairy industry to create a sustainable value chain that contributes to food security, local jobs and prosperity are important issues for the government. The Nigerian government welcomes companies and initiative that will help this development.
He has further stated that the visit will be beneficial to comprehend the problems related to the development of a sustainable dairy industry in Nigeria and the potential contribution of Arla in the best possible manner to resolve the issues.
Hadsbjerg has added that it will facilitate Arla share our knowledge and experience about how our farmer owners have organised and developed their value chain.
