Korea Republic of : South Korean military selects Hanwha Thales as the preferred bidder for KF-X radar contract
Publish Date : 25-Apr-2016
The South Korean military has selected Hanwha Thales as the preferred bidder to develop an advanced radar system for the Korean Fighter Experimental project, or KF-X.
The country's Defense Acquisition Program Administration made this selection on Wednesday.
To be developed for an indigenously made fighter, the radar will be an Active Electronically Scanned Array radar, whose signals are spread out across a band of frequencies and are difficult to detect, adding a degree of stealth to the platform using it.
Now, further negotiations between Hanwha Thales and the military will be held and a contract will likely be awarded in June.
As per a military official, "The technological capacities and cost efficiency were the two main categories in selecting the priority negotiation partner, along with security and cooperation with small and medium enterprises.
South Korea plans $1.6 billion in budget allotment for the new fighter project and intends to procure 120 of the aircraft.
