Publish Date : 07-May-2016

Dutch national rail operator NS has selected Alstom as the preferred bidder for supplying 80 new 200 km/h intercity trains.

According to NS, Alstoms bid gained highest score in regards with reliability, maintainability of trains, energy efficiency, design and after sales support.

With this, unsuccesful bidders will now have the opportunity to appeal against the decision during the mandatory standstill period.

NS expects finalisation of the contract during this summer, with a view to receiving the first train in 2021. NS has specified single-deck units compatible with the conventional network as well as the high-speed HSL.

The new fleet equating to around 25,000 seats, will steadily replace the existing ICM and IC Direct units.

The order also includes an option for additional trains in the future, as NS aims at continuing with a major renewal of its train fleet.
