The Russian Ministry of Defense (MOD) and Admiralty Shipyards have inked a deal to build two high-tech ice-class patrol ships of project 23550 for the Navy's fleet.
The MOD said the ships would be delivered to the Russian Navy until the end of 2020.
Construction will be implemented within the framework of the Armaments 2020 Priority Procurement Programme.
Integrating the capabilities of tug, icebreaker and patrol boat, the 23550 series patrol ship of ice class is a completely new concept of a multifunctional vessel.
Capable of breaking 1,5-meter-thick ice, the ship is able to sail in the tropical and the Arctic waters.
