Publish Date : 09-May-2016

Reliance Defence, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Reliance Infrastructure, has been successful to secure 16 more licences to make different hardware that range from small arms, heavy weapons, ammunition and explosives to electronic warfare systems, missiles, unmanned vehicles and laser systems across defence platforms.

The company is now empowered with overall 27 licences to attend to the whole range of equipment manufacturing space involving the defence sector.

Out of the 16 newly received licences, Reliance Defence has obtained 11 licences for the land systems, and 3 to naval systems, whilst the rest two pertain to niche technologies across the defence spectrum.

The land systems comprise design, development and manufacturing of heavy weapons of all calibres, electronic warfare systems, as well as ammunition, explosives, tanks, and small arms laser systems for target destruction, among other gears, according to a company statement.

Reliance Land Systems Ltd, a 100% arm of Reliance Defence Ltd, will act as the lead firm for the production of missiles, explosives, heavy weapons and tanks, whereas Reliance SED Ltd will serve as the lead entity for the production of electronic warfare systems, directed energy weapon systems and laser systems for target destruction.

The overall value for land systems projects with the government clearance stands at more than Rs. 200,000 core.

In a bid to tap the Rs. 350,000 crore ($50 billion) worth of global infantry combat vehicle market, Reliance Defence Ltd has been planning to develop this vehicle as well.

Reliance Unmanned Systems Ltd, also an arm of Reliance Defence Ltd, has plans to meet the demands of the Indian Navy, Army and Air Force for unmanned systems.

It is anticipated that the collective value of these programmes will be surpassing the mark of Rs. 30,000 crore over the next decade.
