In order to build the much-awaited Portezuelo del Viento hydro power project, the Mendoza province of Argentina is set to launch a tendering process in a month.

During a meeting with Mendoza governor Alfredo Cornejo, President Mauricio Macri announced that the country's government is committed to the 216MW project.

Provincial energy and mining undersecretary Emilio Guianazu said, Portezuelo del Viento is best-positioned to enter operation in the short-term, of several early-stage hydro power projects proposed for the province.

However, a tender for the project has not been announced for the first time.

Authorities have announced Portezuelo del Viento "at least once a year since 2006," when the project was first introduced by the government of the former president Nestor Kirchner.
