United States : Bidding period open for $3B Sandia National Labs management contract

Now contractors may bid on an almost $3 billion Sandia National Labs management contract.

Currently, Lockheed Martins Sandia Corp. holds this contract which is set for expiry in 2017. Sandia Corp. has been running the lab since 1993.

Bids are due June 30. The Energy Department would likely award the contract by the end of calendar year 2016.

Along with few other universities, Fluor, CGI Federal, Information Technology Corp., Definitive Logic Corp., Lockheed Martin, Battelle Memorial Institute, Boeing, have shown interest so far.

On May 24 Battelle announced its plans on working with Boeing and state universities to pursue the contract.

The lab based in the Albuquerque, N.M., has an annual operating budget of around $2.88 billion and employs nearly 10,000 people.
