Bangladesh : CPTU to establish data centre with larger capacity for e-procurement

In order to introduce electronic government procurement (e-GP) across all public procurement entities, the Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) is planning to establish a data centre with larger capacity by September.
The CPTU of the Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) signed a deal with a partnership of the Thakral Information Systems Private Ltd and the Shark Ltd for supply, installation and commissioning of a new data centre and mirror data centre.
The new data centre would be established at the national data centre of Bangladesh Computer Council and the mirror data centre will be established at the CPTU.
Also present were Secretary of IMED Farid Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Additional Secretary and Director General of IMED Shefaul Alam, Director General of CPTU Faruque Hossain, Lead Procurement Specialist of World Bank Zafrul Islam, CEO of Thakral Information Systems Private Ltd Basab Bagchi and Manager for Operations of Shark Ltd Riaj Uddin.
The Singapore-based partnership firms that were offered the contract through a competitive tender will provide post-installation services for 5 years.
A total of 21,729 tenderers registered with the e-GP system and the number of procuring entities registered with it till the date is 2,443, up to June 1, 2016.
Under 1,233 agencies of the government, there are about 25,000 purchasing entities The approximate number of tenderers in the country is nearly 130,000.
