Publish Date : 08-Jun-2016

Oman plans to take up further initiative to cut down electric power subsidies aiming at scaling down power consumption in the Sultanate.

According to information, already studies have been taken up on how to restructure the electricity tariff to make the customers more incentivised to reduce their consumption.

The Sultanate has taken up various restructuring on spending and revenues after the fall in oil prices.

Officials of government-owned Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) during last month had stated that the demand for power in Oman would likely expand by almost 10% per year until 2019.

In April a presentation was made on the governments subsidy for electricity and water at Majlis Al Shura to acquaint members and staff of Shura of the services offered by the government covering the areas of electricity, water and the extent of its contribution to the national economy.
