In a bid to support a graying Japanese agricultural industy while enhancing sales in regions like Southeast Asia, Kubota and Nippon Telegraph & Telephone will work togehter to develop state-of-the-art agricultural technology, including autonomous equipment.

The two Japanese firms will establish a new IT service for farmers, which they would use to help put autonomous farm equipment on the market, targeting a 2018 rollout.

Kubota has commercialized systems using data like the flavor and water content of rice harvested from individual paddies to automatically adjust fertilizer application the following year.

NTT will provide precise GPS technology as well as systems using artificial intelligence to predict weather and harvest times.
