Germany : Sky bolsters content offering in Germany with new contract

Sky has bolstered ts content offering in Germany with a new contract ensuring that it will continue to house Bundesliga football through to 2021.

After a successful result to the German Professional Football Associations (DFL) tender process, Sky customers will enjoy 572 live matches a season from 2017/18 to 2020/21 across every platform.

The new deal allows Sky top continue to air 93% of all live matches, including full live coverage of Bundesliga matches on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Sky will also become the sole live broadcaster for every match of the Bundesliga 2 regular season, with a further live match on Monday evenings, for the first time.

The new deal with the DFL will see Sky paying 32% more in the 2017/18 season the first year of the new contract than in the last year of the current contract which concludes at the end of the 2016/17 season. Over the 4 years of the new deal, the average rights cost per annum will be 876 million, compared to an average of EUR 486 million per year nder the existing contract.
