Publish Date : 08-Jul-2016
On Sunday, Hassyan Energy, a joint venture between Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) and the Saudi-Chinese consortium ACWA Power Harbin Holding Co., signed an engineering procurement construction (EPC) agreement for the first phase of Dubais Hassyan Clean Coal power plant.
According to ACWA Power, the EPC agreement inked with Chinas Harbin Electric International and the U.S.s General Electric, pushes forward development of the project as well as supports Dubais objective to have 7% of its electricity generated by clean coal by 2030. The projects first unit will likely come online by March 2020.
ACWA Powers chairman, Mohammed Abunayyan said, We have taken a significant step towards starting the engineering and construction works as per the stated timeframe for the first plant generating electricity with clean coal in the Gulf region.
Qu Aimin, vice chairman of Harbin Electric International said with our state of art service and highly efficient EPC teams, we will put in place all efforts, and make Hassyan plant a bench-marking project in Dubai and beyond.
By 2023, the 2,400-megawatt (MW) Hassyan power plant will be fully operational, with commissioning of four 600 MW units expected yearly beginning in 2020. The project would be the first clean coal power plant in the Middle East.
During last month, the ACWA Power-led consortium building the plant inked a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with DEWA.
