Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance Solutions provider to industries worldwide, has signed an agreement with Tcnicas Reunidas, an international engineering, design and construction company, to provide technical inspection and expediting services for TOTALs Optara project in Antwerp, Belgium.

TOTALs Antwerp refinery complex modernization project, known as the Optara project, involves the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of a new solvent de-asphalting unit, construction of a new mild hydrocracker fractionation unit and the upgrade of an existing atmospheric residue de-sulphuration unit. The Antwerp complex is the company's largest refinery and petrochemical complex in Europe and the third biggest of its kind in Europe.

Intertek has been contracted to inspect suppliers materials such as piping, instrumentation and electrical equipment to confirm compliance with technical and contractual specifications as well as ensure quality and minimize risk. The paint preparation, coating preparation, and final surface condition and assembly will also be inspected. Throughout the project, Intertek will provide expediting services to ensure that deliveries are on time and according to contractual requirements. Visual assessments and document reviews will also take place to verify the quality and suitability of materials prior to delivery to the site.
