Infratel, Italys state-owned infrastructure firm said the last date for applications for the first six tenders in its national high-speed broadband network in digital divide areas was extended from 18 July to 25 July.

This extension was announced in the official gazette, without specifying any reason.

From the time the tender process was launched, Industry minister Carlo Calenda has announced a review of the plan aiming at including industrial zones.

The tenders are for the design, construction, maintenance and management of wholesale networks with capacity to offer end-users speeds of 30 Mbps to 100Mbps in the regions of Abruzzo, Molise, Emilia Romagna, Lombardy, Tuscany and Veneto.

The network which will be open to all service providers, will remain in public ownership with the concessions lasting 20 years.
