China : Spreadtrum Joins Hands with MTN to Provide South Africa Users WCDMA//HSPA(+)-based Smartphone

Spreadtrum Communications ("Spreadtrum"), a leading fabless semiconductor company in China with advanced technology in 2G, 3G, and 4G wireless communication standards, announced that a smartphone based on Spreadtrum's WCDMA//HSPA(+) platform, SC7731C, has won the procurement bidding from MTN, the largest telecommunications operator in South Africa, as part of their purchases for the third quarter. Spreadtrum and MTN will work together to provide users in South Africa affordable smartphone solutions.
The smartphone is designed with Spreadtrums 1.2GHz Quad-code ARM Cortex-A7 WCDMA/HSPA(+) /GSM/GPRS/EDGE SoC platform SC7731C , supporting dual-card-two-standby. It featuresa 3.5-inch screen, 720P HD video display, 2MP maincamera, 512M RAM and 4GB storage. It is pre-installed with the Android 6.0 operating system, which can effortlessly handle popular applications including Facebook and What's App, providing users a perfectsmartphone experience.
MTN is Africa's largest telecoms operator, with 200 million mobile subscribers in the region and operations in 21 countries across Africa, Asia and the Middle East. As of 2015, MTN has more than 30 million mobile subscribers in South Africa, and a market share of 34.01%.
