India : Punjab to ink MoU with UNICEF to procure HPV vaccine doses

The state government has announced it will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UNICEF for the procurement of 40,000 doses of vaccine against Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) gradually, to eliminate to the menace of cervical cancer in Punjab.

This would make Punjab the first state in India to launch the free vaccination program to eradicate the curse of cervical cancer.

This was decided by the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal at a high-level meeting with the senior officers of the state Health and Family Welfare Department on late Monday.

The CM granted approval to the Health and Family Welfare Department to sign a MoU with UNICEF to procure the required doses of HPV vaccine and assured regular flow of funds to implement this mega vaccination program project in the right earnest.

He noted the need to generate awareness among the general public especially in rural areas about the preventive measures and cure of cervical cancer through launching a mass media campaign.
