Ar-kom project management and consultancy company, is establishing a confectionery plant in Algeria that will start operating in 2017.

The Dubai-based firm, works with Sollich, Netzsch, Chocotech and Euromec German and Italian companies.

Speaking to Mehmet Berberoglu, MD, Ar-kom, at Gulfood Manufacturing (November 7-9) at Dubai World Trade Centre, he said Ar-kom implemens greenfield projects for the confectionery and dairy sector. It provides project management, design and procurement of the plants to be built.

Berberoglu, said, "We think the GCC, Middle East and Africa is the future and it will be booming in the next 10 years. Now we are building a greenfield project in Algeria as well as Turkey and Qatar in confectionery."

He noted that the company has worked on the project in Northern Algeria for four years.

He added, "Everyone wants to invest in Algeria right now because it's a booming market with excellent export opportunities. It is however, a tough challenge because of the bureaucracy. We will become operational in 2017. We are also thinking of developing our own flour facility there because it is not as easy to get the same quality there."
