United States : $168M contract win for Pratt & Whitney for Lot 11 F-35 Propulsion System Components

United Technologies Corp.s Pratt & Whitney subsidiary has won a contract worth $167.5 million to fund long-lead engine materials needed for thelow-rate initial production of lot 11F-35s.

Pratt & Whitney will be supplying 48 F135-PW-100 fighter enginesfor the U.S. Air Force, four F135-PW-100s for the U.S. Navyand 14 F135-PW-600s for the U.S. Marine Corps.

The Navy awarded theadvance acquisition contract which also includeslong-lead components, parts and itemsforthree F135-PW-600 and 41 F135-PW-100 propulsion systems for international partnersandcustomers under the departments foreign military sales program.

According to the DoD, thefull obligated amount during the time of award is from fiscal 2016 Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps aircraft procurement, international partner and FMSfunds.

Under a$1.3 billion contract modification awarded by the Navy in May, Lockheed Martin will be developing and supplying a total of lot 11 LRIP F-35 planes to thethree military branches.

F135 is the derivative of Pratt & WhitneysF119-PW-100turbofan engine which powers the Air Forces F-22 Raptor aircraft.
