Bangladesh : DSCC procures new tech to modernize road construction

Publish Date : 22-Nov-2016

In order to modernise road construction, the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has procured a cold recycling asphalt plant and a cold milling machine.

The machines started operating for the first time on Saturday, on a project in Dhaka's Palashi.

At the machines' opening ceremony, DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon said the machines are a sophisticated step forward and would cut the cost by 40 to 45 per cent.

He said, "Roads which previously cost Tk 10 million to make will now cost us Tk 6 million at most. This is a huge cost saving measure."

Causing flooding of roadside buildings, repeated development work results in a steady growth in the height.

It should no longer lead to higher roads, as the new machines will break up the road before laying new carpeting.

The mayor said the cold milling machines will be the first such one used to develop roads in Bangladesh.

He noted that the new cold recycling asphalt plant does not emit carbon and will not cause smoke or dust pollution.

He said, "The plant is environmentally friendly and will reduce carbon emissions by 90 per cent."
