Germany : SHL secures EPCI deal for Trianel's 203MW Borkum II offshore wind farm in Germany
Publish Date : 30-Nov-2016
Seaway Heavy Lifting (SHL) has won an engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) deal for the turbine foundations at Trianel's 203MW Borkum II offshore wind farm in Germany.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The wind farm, which will be sited in the German North Sea, 45km north of Borkum Island, will feature 32 Senvion 6.2M152 turbines with a power upgrade to 6.33MW each.
All the 32 foundations for the wind turbines will comprise a mono pile and a transition piece. Design, engineering and fabrication of the foundations will be done between 2017 and 2018.
SHL expects to implement the work to install the foundations in late 2018, using its Stanislav Yudin heavy vessel.
Project management and engineering has already started at SHL's offices in Hamburg and Zoetermeer.
The wind farm is expected to cover an area of about 33km2 and the foundations would go to depths between 28m and 33m.
Once completed, the wind farm is expected to decrease carbon emissions by over 290,000 tonnes per year and sulphur emissions by about 6,000 tonnes per year. The project's life is expected to be 25 years.
Seaway Heavy Lifting CEO Jan Willem van der Graaf stated: "The Borkum II project is Seaway Heavy Liftings second EPCI project and is a major step forward in achieving our ambition to be a leading EPCI contractor in the offshore renewables industry. We are proud that Trianel Windpark Borkum II has chosen Seaway Heavy Lifting for this project. We see the award as a sign of confidence in Seaway Heavy Liftings ability to deliver."
