Canada,France : Canada awards Airbus potential $2.3 billion contract

Canada has entered into a potential contract worth $2.3 billion to procure Airbus-built C-295 for serving as the next fixed-wing search-and-rescue aircraft and replace the countrys fleet of aging C-130s and Buffalo planes.
Harjit Sajjan, Canadas defense minister, and Judy Foote, the countrys procurement officer, are set to announce the contract award on Thursday at the Royal Canadian Air Force base in Ontario.
Other competitors for the FWSAR project are Leonardo-Finmeccanica and Embraer.
For this project, Airbus defense and space business has joined hands with CAE, Pratt & Whitneys Canadian division, L-3 Communications subsidiary Wescam and PAL Aerospace.
By 2023, the Canadian air force expects completion of aircraft deliveries by Airbus.
