United States : Scull Construction wins $9.1M health facility contract

Publish Date : 10-Dec-2016

Taking a big step forward on proposals for a new county health facility, Pennington County Commission, has offered a $9.1 million building contract to Scull Construction Services of Rapid City.

The county's construction project manager, Mike Kuhl, said the county benefited from "an excellent bidding environment."

Six bids had been received ranging between Scull's low bid of $9.135 million and $10.3 million from Pro-Mark Services.

Kuhl said each of the bid came in less than the architect's final cost estimate for the project of $10.4 million.

But, the estimated general project budget increases to $11.1 million when design, administration, technology and contingency costs are added in.

However, in total, the new facility will cost taxpayers nearly $15 million because of other costs that include the procurement of the building and residential property to be demolished to make way for the parking lot for the health facility.

Commissioner George Ferebee, said, "So the total project cost is closer to $13 (million) to $14 million. Approaching $15 million."

According to Kuhl, that was right.
