South Africa : Microsoft, national treasury announce new deal as Gordhan pushes to enhance state procurement
Publish Date : 13-Dec-2016
Through the State IT Agency (Sita), Microsoft and national treasury, have announced a new deal which according to the government will lead to the "optimisation of Microsoft products and services within all spheres of government."
This comes after the parties started reviewing current contracts for Microsoft licences and services to government. The review is part of finance minister Pravin Gordhan's push to enhance state procurement and save costs.
In order to reach savings and enhance delivery, the office of the chief procurement officer in national treasury has focused on the top 100 vendors to government.
National treasury stated, "Sita is one of the leading agencies collaborating with the chief procurement officer in optimising governments investment in ICT."
It said Microsoft is among the first vendors to cooperate actively with government in finding ways to optimise the state's investment in technology.
The deal especially offers special volume pricing to government; enables state departments to access some of Microsoft's top technical skills at reduced rates; and provides flexibility for state agencies to opt for on-premise, hybrid or cloud licensing solutions. Chief procurement officer Kenneth Brown and Sita CEO Setumo Mohapi said contracts with other technology vendors are being discussed.
They added, "Announcements in this regard will be made in collaboration with Sita at an appropriate time."
