The Chilean Air Force has placed an order with Sikorsky for six S-70i Black Hawk helicopters.

Earlier in August, the force had originally announced its decision to procure the six S-70i helicopters.

These aircraft are being procured for the service's medium-lift helicopter recapitalisation programme.

Helicopters will be deployed in a range of roles including military and humanitarian missions, like troop transport, search and rescue, and disaster relief.

Under this contract, Sikorsky will also be responsible for the provision of a logistical support package covering spare parts, pilots and maintenance specialists training, on-site technical assistance and ground support equipment.

Delivery of the helicopters are due in 2018.
