France : Nexans offers buoyancy modules contract for Hywind Scotland
Publish Date : 29-Dec-2016
French cable making company Nexans has offered a contract to the Bardot Group to provide buoyancy modules for the power cables of the first floating wind farm in the world, Hywind Scotland.
Sited 30 kilometres offshore Peterhead, the 30MW floating wind farm,, will be run by Norwegian oil and gas giant Statoil.
Hywind will be comprised of 5 wind turbine generators linked through a cable network. The power generated by the turbines will then be transferred to land by one export cable.
The cabling was offered to Nexans, which selected Bardot Group to equip its dynamic cables with buoyancy modules.
The Nexans-Bardot Group deal consists of the procurement of several hundreds of buoyancy modules, each delivering around 400 kilogrammes of buoyancy and rated for 120 metres of water depth.
The buoyancy modules incorporate Bardot's in-house DeepFloat syntactic foam technology, and will offer flotation assistance in the dynamic parts of the power cables.
The onsite delivery of the buoyancy modules is scheduled for May 2017.
