Argentina : Argentina regulator Enacom announces tender to provide fixed internet services in rural areas
Publish Date : 31-Dec-2016
Argentina regulator Enacom has announced a tender to provide fixed internet services in rural areas.
As per information, successful applicants will be receiving support from the universal service fund to introduce internet to towns which are not targeted by existing market players due to their small size, especially towns up to 2,500 inhabitants with poor coverage and villages having around 500 residents with no coverage.
Out of the total cost, around 80 percent will be covered, with a maximum ARS 2 million for single towns and ARS 3 million for projects covering two towns. In total around ARS 350 million will be available.
Applicants should possess a license to provide internet services, and all types of IP based technology will be considered to provide the service, including wireless.
Additionally, the successful bidders will have to provide free access to state institutions like schools and libraries.
Till 3 February 2017, the tender will remain open for consultation, and projects must be presented by 25 March.
