Publish Date : 03-Jan-2017

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is looking to set up a plastic waste recycling plant this year.

Once it starts operating, this will be civic body's maiden eco-friendly project in the new year.

The GVMCC will prepart the detail project report and invite bids this month.

The plant is expected to be set up at Kapuluppada.

GVMC commissioner M Hari Narayanan said currently, they are working on laying roads using plastic as binding material. They are laying the roads in 10 localities across the city extending to 2 km in total at a cost of Rs 90 lakh.

The GVMC is procuring the plastic waste from select vendors. The roads undergoing development include one at Papayyapalem for Rs 8 lakh and one in Vidya Nagar for Rs 6.5 lakh in the 70th ward.

GVMC commissioner Hari said, "At present, we are depending on private suppliers to procure the waste to lay the plastic roads. In the future, we will set up a plastic recycling plant where we can get a waste which can be used for laying plastic roads."
