Publish Date : 03-Jan-2017
The county magistrate has announced that Changhua County in central Taiwan's local government is planning to open a power company this year, which will focus on the trading of locally-generated clean energy.
Besides the proposed firm, the county will also seek a license from the central government to engage in carbon emissions trading.
Wei Ming-ku said this while announcing his government's policies during a New Year celebration at county hall.
He addressed the efforts made by the county government to exploit clean energy in the form of wind and solar power last year.
Wei said, due to this work, Changhua County Government inked contracts with four foreign firms to build wind farms and wind-producing power plants in offshore areas of the county.
He noted that additionally, the county government also worked with state-run Taiwan Power Co. to develop clean energy.
The county magistrate said, "A total of four foreign businesses and two local companies will invest in the wind and solar energy-driven electric generating sector of Changhua County, total capital involved in the projects of more than NT$1 trillion (US$30.8 billion)."
