Two deals have been publicly announced in the last few weeks - Lloyd's Reqister (LR) buying Acoura and Bureau Veritas expandinq its aqri-food business in Brazil.
LR said the acquisition of the British compliance and safety expert would bolster the position of LRQA's food safety assurance services and expand them into new markets.With over 28,000 consumers in the food and beverage industry, Acoura provides inspection, advisory and training services.The company is certified by ASI, ANSI and UKAS to provide inspections for around 60 standards.
LRQA and Acoura said they will provide enhanced brand protection for clients through end-to-end supply chain assurance from farm to fork.
John Rowley, LRQA managing director, said the move bolsters ability to provide food safety assurance services to allow customers to manage supply chain, risk and compliance issues.
He said, "The visibility of real-time supply chain information - using Acouras technology platform to gather and report data - together with our collective food safety technical expertise - will enable us to deliver valuable insight to customers by enabling them to benchmark their suppliers and improve risk management."
Bureau Veritas has acquired Kuhlmann Monitoramento Agrfcola (KMA). a Brazilian firm with expertise in monitoring and auditing services for the agri-food sector.
Bureau Veritas said agriculture and agri-food are thriving industries and play a key role in foreign trade.
The company staffs 68,400 employees in 1.400 offices and laboratories across the world.
